Jon Goddard-Watts, the former MD of Screwfix and owner of Yeovil Town Football Club, has passed away aged 90.

Mr Watts passed away on February 23rd.

Jon and his wife Jenny Goddard-Watts started Screwfix in 1981 when they bought the Woodscrew Supply Company - a small business which sold screws through the classified advertising publication, Exchange and Mart. They later acquired two further companies and combined the three into Screwfix Direct in 1993, selling their goods via telephone and mail order.

He was instrumental in the expansion and development of the multi-million-pound home improvement and trade retailer, which the family sold to B&Q in 1999, for £60m.

John Mewett, chief executive officer at Screwfix, said: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jon Goddard-Watts.

"As one of the founders of Screwfix, Jon helped to lay the foundations of what Screwfix is today. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.”
