Next gains approval for new Home and Garden store in Plymouth
Next has gained approval from councillors to build a Next Home and Garden store at Marsh Mills in Plymouth, creating approximately 140 jobs.
The new three-storey store will require investment of around £12 million and will feature clothing, home goods, a garden centre and a café. The development site is located on a derelict piece of land adjacent to the existing Next Home store, and has been untouched for eight years.
Planning officers had recommended that the application be rejected, stating that the development would be detrimental to the city centre and other retail sites in the area. In order to gain approval, Next had to agree to certain conditions relating to noise levels, the positioning of the café and local employment. In addition, the branch must adhere to minimum and maximum sale areas for bulky goods and fashion goods.
