Deliveroo today launches ‘Deliveroo Shopping’, a new online retail offer which will bring consumers a world of retail options on-demand, alongside Deliveroo’s existing restaurant food and grocery offering.

Deliveroo sees ‘Deliveroo Shopping’ as marking a major new step in its growth journey and a natural extension of its offer to consumers, offering consumers what they want and need for a wider set of occasions with the same on-demand convenience they’re used to at mealtimes. As of today, consumers can seamlessly order a range of retail products, from electronics to pet food, from flowers to toys.

With ‘Deliveroo Shopping’, consumers can choose retail items from high-street and local neighbourhood shops as well as supermarkets, whose products will be delivered by Deliveroo’s network of 80,000 riders in the UK.

Deliveroo is set to dramatically expand this selection over the coming months, offering even more items across categories including pharmacy, DIY, homeware, toys, petcare and more. Deliveroo will add more retailers and products, focusing on the most popular categories.

Supermarket brands already on Deliveroo, such as Waitrose, Co-op, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons are extending their ranges to bolster the retail selection on Deliveroo, as is Boots, which is adding an extended Christmas gifting range. Consumers can already buy Lego at more than 100 grocery sites across the Deliveroo platform. Combined, this will mean customers nationwide can now find more products than ever at their fingertips.

Deliveroo and Screwfix have agreed to partner exclusively for this service. Screwfix is the UK’s leading retailer of trade tools and hardware products, that has stores within 20 minutes of 95% of the UK population. With Home Improvement set to be an important category for Deliveroo, Screwfix will join the platform soon with an initial range of up to 500 products available, helping provide a quick solution to issues at home from plumbing, electrical, decorating and more.

Consumers are already searching for non-food items on Deliveroo, with 71,000 monthly searches for pet products, a 76% increase in searches for home accessories in the past year, and 320,000 monthly searches for beauty and personal care. The company made £250,000 sales of flowers in October (+280% YoY), in July-September sold £40k of Apple AirPods and so far this year has sold 1.4m packs of toilet paper.

Deliveroo is also rolling out a new gifting functionality in the app, perfect for sending flowers, surprising a loved one with something special or even sending some chicken soup to an unwell friend. With Christmas just around the corner, retailers are offering seasonal items and gifts perfect for festive celebrations. Consumers can either find these in the ‘gifts’ section of Deliveroo Shopping or they can search for the specific gift they want and mark this as a ‘gift’ at checkout.

Deliveroo’s machine-learning-based search and discovery functionality also allows consumers to browse for a gifting occasion in app, for example a birthday, and they will instantly be offered a curated selection of gifting options.

Eric French, Deliveroo’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “This is a super exciting innovation for consumers. Deliveroo is now catering for a wider set of consumer needs and occasions. Just as Deliveroo transformed the way people eat, we’re set to do the same to how people shop, bringing more of the local neighbourhood to people’s doors. And this is just in time for Christmas, so whether people need an emergency last minute gift or just want to order whenever and wherever it suits them, Deliveroo’s got your back.”

Max Britten, Managing Director, Screwfix UK & ROI, comments: “We’re delighted to partner with Deliveroo for this exciting innovation. We pride ourselves on being convenient for customers and this gives us a new opportunity to support them with products when they need them.”
