B&Q opens first new concept 'Big Box' in Bristol

On Thursday 16th June, B&Q officially opened the doors to its first new concept home improvement store at Cribbs Causeway in Bristol. The first of its kind in the UK, the store has been radically improved to reflect the ongoing changes in the way we live, how we shop and the way we use our homes. The end-to-end customer shopping experience is dramatically enhanced making home improvement for B&Q Cribbs Causeway shoppers more accessible than ever before.

B&Q Cribbs Causeway remained open throughout its makeover, with many of its new features kept under wraps until its grand opening today, which sees the start of four days of celebrations in store, including cookery demonstrations, creativity workshops, food, music, prizes and more.  Plus, a special appearance from ex-England and Bristol Rovers football star, Gary Mabbutt, who joins the fun on Sunday 19th June.

Now bigger, brighter and better, B&Q Cribbs Causeway offers customers over 40,000 products, including 2,500 new and exclusive products, at great prices - enabling Bristolians to be even more creative in their homes. Lighting, paint, home decor, tiling, bathrooms and kitchens are among the areas that have been heavily invested in. With larger ranges, there’s more for customers to choose from and, with the new highly visual, inspirational and informative displays, customers are better able to do-it-themselves.

The new-concept is the first of four stores trialling a combination of the best elements of DIY from across the Kingfisher group and is the result of close cooperation between B&Q and Castorama, B&Q’s sister company in France.  The Cribbs Causeway store has been chosen as the UK location for this unique project, which has taken six months to complete and has seen every department completely modernised. The other three stores in the project will open later this year in France, Poland and Russia.

Michael Loeve, CEO at B&Q, said: “This newly upgraded store will play a significant role in how we, and the rest of the Kingfisher, shape our stores of the future. The project has been a huge undertaking for B&Q and we’re delighted to see it come to fruition. We look forward to continuing to welcoming home improvers from Bristol and further afield to our Cribbs Causeway store following the opening this weekend.”

Matt Cook, B&Q Cribbs Causeway Store Manager, said: “B&Q has never attempted a project on this scale before and the impact is evident: we have created an environment where customers can come to feel inspired. It’s taken us six months to complete this project, and we’ve kept the store open throughout this time. We’ve already had amazing feedback from customers who have seen the work done to date, and I’m incredibly proud of what our team has achieved at Cribbs Causeway.”
