B&M Looking to Take on Sittingbourne Homebase Site

B&M has submitted plans to Swale Council proposing a variation of building use for the Homebase store in Sittingbourne Retail Park.
The company applied to the council on 31st December 2018, requesting that permission be granted to allow the site to sell food, toys, non-fashion clothing, toiletries, toiletries and glassware from a B&M Homestore.
The proposal states: "B&M Retail Ltd wish to re-occupy the unit after Homebase announced that the store was one of a number which would shortly close. The variation is required in order to enable B&M Retail Ltd trading its ‘Homestore’ format, to open within the unit."
Around 50 members of staff work at the Homebase store which is 3,357 sq m in size, with an additional outside space of 743 sq m.
The store was previously converted to the Bunnings format after Australia's Wesfarmers took over the Homebase business in early 2016. It was converted back to Homebase after Wesfarmers sold the business to restructuring specialist Hilco for £1, in May 2018.
If successful in taking on the site, B&M will create 85 full and part-time jobs.
