Yale Raises Awareness Of National Home Security Month
- Raise awareness of home security this October with the help of National Home Security Month from Yale
The awareness campaign, National Home Security Month (NHSM) is back from 1st October celebrating its tenth year of helping homeowners across the UK prioritise their home security. With lead support from home security brand, Yale, the aim of this year’s campaign is to ensure home security is at front of mind when prepping for the vulnerable autumn period.
When the clocks go back, we often see a spike in burglary attempts across the UK, as opportunists make use of the darker nights to operate under the cover of darkness. And this is why NHSM runs throughout the entirety of October, aiming to raise awareness of the importance of upgrading home security at this time of year.
And whilst NHSM is celebrating its tenth campaign, it’s clear, from a survey commissioned by Yale, that home security is still not a priority for UK homeowners.
Although Brits have their own unusual tactics to secure their homes, such as keeping a light on when they go out (52%) and leaving on a TV or radio (28%)1, it was in fact revealed that two thirds of Brits haven’t upgraded their home security in the last two years1, a worrying concept as burglary rates continue to rise. But this lack of prioritisation for Brits also provides opportunities for the trade, where they can recommend a home security upgrade in a range of key areas across the home.
So, how can you ensure you’re making the most of this heightened interest in home security and doing so at a time when investment in security solutions has been low? Well, the team at National Home Security Month and Yale are here to help, sharing the key areas and product focuses that the trade should be prioritising during this time.
Duncan Chamberlain, MD at Yale UK, commented on the campaign: “We’re pleased to announce that National Home Security Month is this year celebrating 10 years of providing home security advice to homeowners across the UK.
“But although we’ve been a part of the campaign for a decade, it’s fair to say the statistics collated in Yale’s recent survey show the continued importance for education on the topic of home security.
“And as we see the arrival of autumn, the clocks going back and darker evenings on the horizon, October is the perfect time to invest in a home security upgrade. With this time of year statistically seeing a general incline in domestic burglary cases, us Brits need to ensure our home security is up to scratch to cope with the ever-changing burglary techniques used by opportunists.
“This is why National Home Security Month continues to play its part in the promotion of home protection methods, offering expert advice and support to help Brits improve the protection of our homes.
“This year, we’re excited to have a number of our key trade partners supporting the NHSM campaign, all with the same aim of spreading the message of improved home security far and wide. NHSM will be doing this through a national radio campaign, social media content and promotions in-stores and online, to make a home security upgrade even easier for homeowners.”
With the heightened promotion of NHSM this year, the trade should look to get behind the campaign and this increased interest and focus on home security, and ensure they are making suitable product selections to deal with this demand.
