Yale Launches National Security Month Campaign
- Make the most of a demand for security solutions this autumn with the help of National Home Security Month from Yale
The awareness campaign, National Home Security Month (NHSM) from the experts here at Yale, is back for its ninth consecutive year to help to raise awareness of the importance of homeowners upgrading their home security ahead of the vulnerable autumn period.
With October signalling the time of year for the clocks to go back and the nights to draw in, National Home Security Month arrives to put home security at front of mind for homeowners during this risky time. In fact, recent statistics from Aviva Insurance revealed that 55% of burglaries occur when it’s dark1, making October the perfect month to push home security solutions ahead of the autumn, winter months.
Launching on Friday 1st October, the 2021 campaign is all about helping consumers to protect what matters most to them, whether that be irreplaceable possessions, cars, expensive electronics or, of course, their family.
With this year’s campaign focused on the importance of putting preventative home security measures in place, merchants and trade professionals can make the most of this year’s national promotional activity by stocking up on a range of security solutions. To ensure you can maximise on this profitable period, the campaign will focus on three main hero products across the month to educate homeowners on their benefits:
Week One - Front door Security
With recent figures from the Office of National Statistics revealing that 76% of household burglaries in England and Wales occurred when the culprit accessed the home through a door2, front door security will be a key step for homeowners looking to upgrade their home security this autumn.
And this year’s NHSM campaign has a week-long product focus surrounding front door security, showcasing how these high-quality cylinders can protect homes against a range of well-known attack methods during this vulnerable month.
By stocking up on cylinders that also have the BSI Kitemark, this sign of quality and safety can give peace of mind to homeowners, whilst also offering a multitude of sales opportunities.
Week 2 & 3 - External security
With security cameras being hugely effective deterrents against domestic burglaries, the second and third weeks of NHSM will focus on showcasing the range of capabilities of outdoor cameras to protect homes this autumn.
From expert tips and advice to help homeowners make the most of a CCTV system, including showcasing smart options that offer remote monitoring of a home from anywhere at any time, trade professionals can look to recommend CCTV at this time to maximise on sales for these high-priced camera systems.
Week 4 - ‘Safe’ and sound
The final week of this year’s National Home Security Month will highlight the ways in which homeowners can protect those special, irreplaceable items in their homes with a range of security solutions including maximum security safes.
Yale will also be introducing a brand-new product to the market during this week that offers a safe, secure and smart way to conveniently have parcels and other important packages stored safely when you’re out.
Trade professionals familiarising themselves with the product focus for each week of NHSM can ensure they are always prepared for an increase of demand in these solutions, helping to maximise on sales whilst home security is at front of mind for homeowners.
Duncan Chamberlain, MD at Yale UK, said of the campaign: “Historically, Autumn brings with it not only darker evenings, but also a rise in the rate of burglaries across the UK. And with lives returning back to some form of normality following the pandemic, it’s no surprise that we can expect to see burglary rates increase once again this year as we leave our homes unattended.”
As homeowners became complacent during lockdown, worrying statistics are now coming to light that even the basic of home security measures are being forgotten, including over a quarter of Brits not locking their doors when they’re at home.3
This is why National Home Security Month is such an important campaign, as it aims to raise awareness of the importance of home security to ensure homeowners aren’t at risk of being an easy target.
“With an array of top name supporters, including Toolstation, Homebase and Crimestoppers, alongside radio campaigns and inclusion in a popular podcast series, NHSM returns for its ninth consecutive year to cover all areas of home security. From cylinders to CCTV and even news of an exciting new product release, NHSM will be as invaluable as ever in informing homeowners on what they can do to protect their home during the autumn and beyond, ensuring our homes are as safe as houses.”
