Wickes And Kimberley Walsh Launch Community Competition

Wickes Community 192
  • Retailer Wickes has teamed up with its brand partner Kimberley Walsh to launch a new community competition with a prize worth £10,000

UK home improvement retailer Wickes has today announced the launch of the Wickes Community Programme Competition, offering a community organisation the chance to win £10,000.

Fronted by DIY enthusiast Kimberley Walsh, the competition was launched following research that found more than half (51%) of Brits believe a renewed community space would boost not only their enjoyment of their local area, but their mental health and wellbeing.

The survey carried out amongst 1500 people1, revealed that more than a quarter of Britons (26%) are feeling a lack of social interaction with their local communities, while almost a third (32%) of 18-29 year olds claimed to feel ‘disconnected’ from their local area.

The study also found that a quarter of UK adults claim that they would go from never visiting local community spaces to visiting once a week if they were revamped and made to look more appealing. The findings of this research served to solidify the need for a material difference in communities across the UK.

The competition has been created to help amplify the Wickes Community Programme, a dedicated product fund to support local initiatives and organisations to improve their community areas.

Having been trialled in 2021, the scheme has supported 350 projects already, and seen spaces such as Kids in Action Children's Charity, the Cuan Wildlife Rescue Centre and Walking with the Wounded Charity receive items. The retailer’s Community Programme has over a quarter of a million pounds worth of products to help benefit the local communities.

Gary Kibble, Chief Marketing & Digital Officer, said: “At Wickes we’re dedicated to supporting our local communities and helping the nation feel houseproud. We hope that this competition and the ongoing Community Programme initiative will help to make a material difference within communities”.

The Wickes Community Programme competition is open from 15th June and closes on 15th July. For full terms and conditions and to submit your application simply go online and search for the Wickes Community Programme.
