Theo Paphitis opens new Robert Dyas store in Enfield

A former BBC’s Dragons’ Den star said fears for the future of the high street were "nonsense" as he opened a shop in Enfield Town.

Theo Paphitis, was speaking at the opening of one of his Robert Dyas hardware stores in Enfield Town's Palace Gardens shopping centre.

The retail mogul and former chairman of Millwall Football Club said: “This is a fantastic store and we are delighted to open in Enfield Town. We will be offering something unique and so far we have been delighted with the response we have received.”

Mr Paphitis opened a Robert Dyas store in Edgware last week pledging to create jobs for local people. The Palace Gardens store has created 15 new jobs for people in Enfield.

Enfield Town high street has seen a number of shops close in recent weeks, with La Senza and now Morrisons set to close.

However, the former Dragon rubbished claims the high street could die out.

He said: “It’s nonsense that there is no future for the high street. High streets are adapting and Enfield will do the same. Our shopping habits have changed almost every two years but if you want something quickly then there’s nothing better than a high street.

“There needs to be continued appeal in a high street and ensure that local authorities offer better parking and support for businesses.”
