The Range Looking To Open New Store In Ayr
The Range has been revealed as the retailer planning to combine three existing stores into one on a retail park in Ayr.
Heathfield Retail Park's former Carpetright, Harveys and Poundland stores are set to be converted into one large retail unit with an external garden centre, subject to receiving planning permission from South Ayrshire Council.
CDS (Superstores International) Ltd requested permission to make changes to the site in February 2021, including the erection of a three-metre high fence to create an external garden centre and an enclosed warehouse yard, as well as the erection of a rear warehouse canopy.
South Ayrshire Council is considering the application.
Documents submitted to council planners state: “CDS (Superstores International) Ltd trading as The Range is proposing to occupy units 2A/2B/3 on the Heathfield Retail Park in Ayr.
"The planning application seeks consent to provide an external garden centre to complement the occupation of the retail warehouse unit by The Range.
"In addition, an enclosed warehouse yard is also required to improve security when unloading goods and preparing their introduction onto the shop floor.
"The garden centre is an intrinsic component of the Range’s business model and the council is expected to grant permission for a garden centre extending to 929 sq m to the rear.”
“Individually the units within the town centre are clearly too small to meet the requirements of The Range which sells in the order of up to 65,000 items. None are capable of providing an external garden centre. Operating from two or more stores would reduce rather than increase the efficiency of the company.”
