Survey shows 30% of mums planned DIY for Mother's Day
Three in ten mums (30 per cent) will be rolling up their sleeves and getting stuck into a DIY project this Mothering Sunday.
The poll*, by home improvement specialist Wickes, reveals that instead of putting their feet up and being pampered, these dedicated mums will spend on average two and a quarter hours (2.27) working on their home or garden.
Painting not pampering
Top of the list of must-do jobs is spring cleaning (37 per cent), followed by painting (30 per cent) and mowing the lawn (27 per cent).
Despite this time often being set aside to treat our lovely mums, nearly one in ten of those doing DIY will be tiling (7 per cent).
The perfect present
Whilst flowers, chocolates and breakfast in bed are classic presents on this special day, nearly two in three Mums (64 per cent) can name at least one project they would like finalised as the perfect present. Painting the ceiling represents the one DIY task most mums would love to be completed.

Head of Brand Communications, Matthew Gaunt, said: "We know our customers like to take every spare opportunity to complete their DIY projects and improve their homes and gardens, but perhaps Mother's Day should be the one Sunday a year every Mum in the country allows themselves to be treated and take it easy?
"We see and hear every day what pleasure a completed project brings to the lives of our customers; from the smallest tweaks to major building works. I'm not surprised to hear so many Mums say the perfect present this Sunday would be a job well done and finished."
