Screwfix plans for 50 new stores in 2015
Screwfix is to open over 50 new stores in 2015 and create an additional 900 jobs.
The plans were announced during a visit to the retailer’s Cannock store by Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, as part of his ‘Great British Brands’ tour.
The announcement comes less than six months after Screwfix revealed it would open 60 new stores during 2014 and follows on from the opening of 60 new stores in 2013.
The company has also recently unveiled plans to expand overseas into Germany with four trial stores opening this month.
After making the announcement, the Chancellor was given a behind-the-scenes tour of the Screwfix operations at the Cannock store and also met members of the team.
The Chancellor said: “Screwfix is a great British success story and it is fantastic to see them expanding and creating new jobs.”
Screwfix has recently opened its 360th store and employs more than 6,000 people.
Andrew Livingston, Screwfix chief executive, added: “We’re thrilled to welcome the Chancellor to Cannock as part of his tour of Great British brands and are proud to be a successful British business.
“We have seen increasing optimism among our trade customers for some time now, which not only represents potential growth across the industry but increasing employment opportunities.”
