Lowe's makes over 500 head office and support staff redundant
Lowe's has made around 430 head office staff redundant as well as a further 95 at support sites.
The news was revealed on Tuesday by WCNC, a news station in North Carolina, where the retailer's head office is based.
Around 70 of the support site roles which have gone are from a site in Wilkesboro, also in North Carolina.
Lowe's issued the following statement to WCNC in relation to the cuts:
“Lowe’s is engaged in a comprehensive effort to refocus and prioritize resources to ensure we have the right organizational structure in place to support our omni-channel strategy and customers’ expectations. Today we announced the next phase of our effort, which is focused on creating a more agile and efficient operating structure for corporate-based positions that will enable us to be more responsive to customers’ evolving needs.”
In January, there was speculation Lowe's was planning to cut around one per cent of its workforce.
Earlier this month, Lowe's announced plans to take on 45,000 seasonal workers.
