Last DIY Express Store Rebrands As Screwfix
Kingfisher has confirmed that in February 2019, it rebranded the last DIY Express store to Screwfix.
The DIY Express brand - which was marketed as ‘the local DIY store’ - operated from two sites: one in Shepton Mallett, Somerset, and one in Hayes, Middlesex, and offered a range of over 5,000 products. Customers could also order items for collection from a selection at Screwfix.
The pilot stores opened in March 2012 with the business registered to directors Graham Bell (former CEO of Screwfix and now CEO of B&Q) and Jon Mewett (now CEO of Screwfix).
The Hayes store closed less than six months after opening, but the 5,000 sq ft Shepton Mallet store continued to trade until February this year.
A Screwfix spokeswoman told Insight DIY: ‘We rebranded the store in February 2019 as part of our journey to meet the needs of our busy trade customers. With over 630 stores nationwide, 90% of the UK population are now within a 20 minute drive of a Screwfix store’.
The DIY Express website still directs customers to The Haskins Retail Centre location and the Screwfix website states that it has a store at the same address.
