JYSK Opens New Store in Wakefield
Capreon, the Noé Group real estate business, is delighted to announce that JYSK, the international retail chain offering Scandinavian style furniture for homes, has taken a new unit in Westgate Retail Park, Wakefield. The new store will be JYSK’s 19th UK location with Wakefield chosen from a list of over 400 locations.
JYSK will be occupying a 744.70sq m unit, formerly occupied by DW Sports, on a 10-year lease. They join Dreams and One Below in moving to the retail park within the last 12-months.
Ten jobs have been created at the store, which opened on Saturday 3rd August.
The new JYSK store offers shoppers the latest trends and Scandinavian design for the home and garden. JYSK have created an inspiring shopping experience, with room set-ups within the furniture departments – so shoppers can get a sneak peek at how the furniture could look in-situ.
The new store joins a strong collection of home retailers including Harvey’s, Bensons for Beds, ScS and Dreams, as well as top retail brands including Curry’s/PC World, Laura Ashley, Mothercare and Pets at Home.
The retail park also offers a selection of food and beverage outlets with Costa Coffee, KFC and Subway.
JYSK UK country manager, David Ashton, said: “It is always fantastic to open a new store and introduce people to Jysk. Sometimes it can be a very long time between location search all the way through to grand opening day – but seeing those customers streaming into the store as soon as the ribbon is cut is why we all love the job we do.
“We opened this store in the middle of the transition period from outdoor to indoor season, therefore we showcased a lot of new furniture early for the customers in Wakefield. You can see that notable difference between the St Helens [June] and Wakefield openings, because nearly 40% of our sales were furniture in Wakefield, compared to 24% in St Helens – which we opened in the middle of the outdoor season.
"The phenomenal performance of garden furniture for the whole country in 2019 meant we were sold out of almost 75% of the entire range before we got to opening day – demand this year has really been that incredible, so next year we will once again order more stock than ever and give Wakefield something extra special to be wowed by.
“I have said it before, retail does not need to have the doom-and-gloom impression out there – we are amongst a group of retailers that are thriving at the moment. This retail park in Wakefield is a prime example of one which was near empty a year ago, and now has a brand new lease of life. The customers are still out there and ready to shop, but they must know and feel that we really do appreciate and value every single one of them. I certainly do.”
“TeamJysk Wakefield made us proud – they delivered a super-attractive store and great customer service."
Carolyn Sparshott, asset manager – Retail at Capreon, said: “We are very pleased to welcome JYSK to Westgate, they are joining a strong mix of homeware retailers and add a distinct offering to shoppers in Wakefield. JYSK’s arrival is the third in 12-months and marks the growing reputation of Westgate from its 50% occupancy a year ago to the thriving retail park it is today. There are more exciting new retailers to come!”
