Huge Turnout for Grand Opening of Flagship The Range Store
After months of anticipation, the brand new 70,000 square foot branch of The Range has opened on the former Seaton Hill Barracks Site off William Prance Road in Derriford, Plymouth.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was watched by huge crowds who turned out to celebrate the grand opening. The store was proudly opened on February 8th at 9am by the owner and founder of The Range, Chris Dawson, who was joined for the opening by special guest, the Deputy Mayor of Plymouth, Councillor Chris Mavin.
In celebration of the 30th year of The Range, Chris Dawson returned to his roots and entertained the crowds on a Market Stall right outside Plymouth’s newest and biggest superstore. In the 70/80s Chris travelled across the South West gaining a reputation for being the best market trader in the county, his quick wit and entertainment abilities made going to watch him more of a free show than a visit to a market (although we challenge anyone not to buy from Chris after you have seen his selling skills).
The Range provided giveaways for the first 50 people in the queue including a 10-foot trampoline for the first in line who waited outside the store since 3am. Alongside The Range Giveaways, Radio Plymouth were in-store all morning with their cash grabber for customers to compete to win a gift card worth £250 to spend at their brand new store.
The children of St Matthew’s C of E Academy School choir performed in-store on opening morning. They were presented with a £250 gift card to spend at their new local store and have already confirmed they are very interested in getting some new Art supplies for the school.
Some amazing special opening offers will be running throughout the store until 24th February and customers will also have the opportunity to win a Home and Garden bundle worth £5,000* when they spend £25 or more in the new store before the 4th March. The prize bundle will include a Lay-Z-Spa Havana hot tub, bedroom furniture, a garden shed and tools, a Chargriller Duo BBQ, Iceland Food vouchers, The Range gift cards, kitchen accessories, home interior items and much much more to decorate and furnish your home.
Other activities taking place in-store over the opening weekend included:
- The chance to meet the real-life Dulux Dog
- Barry Scott from Cillit Bang ran product demonstrations
- Sodastream product demonstration
- Design Objectives demos
- Uniball Posca pens demos
- Trimcraft demos
- Snazaroo face painting
Over 80 full and part-time jobs, from store to department managers, warehouse assistants to retail administrators have been created in the new store, providing a fantastic boost to the local economy.
