Homebase To Permanently Close One Northern Ireland Store
Homebase has confirmed its intention to close one of its Northern Ireland stores.
Staff in the Newtownabbey branch were told on Friday that their store would be closing later this year.
Local online press service, Belfast Live, reported that Homebase had not provided an indication of the number of jobs that would be lost as a result of the closure.
A spokesperson for Homebase said: "We’ve had to make some difficult but necessary decisions regarding store closures in the last few years, as part of our turnaround plan, to ensure the business is sustainably set up for the future.
"We announced the proposed closure of the Newtownabbey store later this year to the team on Friday, and are working to support everyone impacted by the news.”
Homebase announced a phased reopening of its stores on 24th April, eventually opening the doors to its nine Northern Ireland stores and the remaining UK stores on 2nd May, after closing temporarily in April to ascertain the safest way to continue serving the needs of customers during the coronavirus pandemic.
