Homebase store forced to close
A Homebase store in Basildon is being forced to close in December.
British Land - which owns the Mayflower Retail Park site - has refused to allow an extension to the lease, so the store will close and 48 jobs will be lost on December 3rd.
A Homebase spokesperson said:
“Since Bunnings bought Homebase earlier this year, we have been working hard to stop as many store closures as possible, but unfortunately in this instance we were unable to renew the lease.
“Our priority now is supporting the team.”
Staff have been offered voluntary redundancy or the opportunity to work at other stores.
British Land acquired the retail park, which consists of 153,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space, in early 2011 for c. £51 million.
