Homebase looks towards next generation of interior designers

Homebase is offering young people a once in a lifetime opportunity to join a ground-breaking scheme designed to help kick start careers in interior design.

Following on from the success of the Homebase Garden Academy, which is now in its second year, Homebase has now launched the Homebase Interior Design & Decorating Academy - a programme offering people aged 16 and above, qualifications and experience focused on interior design and decorating.

Academy students will be working full-time in their local Homebase store’s ‘Design Hub’ to gain experience of helping customers decorate and redesign the look and feel of any room in their home, during their official training programmes.

Time will also be spent with industry experts and big brand suppliers of Homebase. Successful applicants will study towards a City & Guilds accredited qualification in interior design and decorating, receive visual merchandising training and experience, as well as customer service training from the Institute of Customer Service. Additionally, the students will have the opportunity be involved with well-known interior design shows such as Grand Designs Live.

John Shaw, Homebase HR Director said: “As one of the UK’s leading home enhancement retailers, we are committed to championing our industry as a great career choice – and we’re delighted to be able to offer young people a step on the career ladder.

“The Interior Design & Decorating Academy will provide an exciting opportunity for people to make the most of their passion for putting together complete room looks, regardless of their experience.”

Successful applicants must have a passion for interior design, but don’t need to have a lot of experience. Throughout the scheme students will receive their own personal set of decorating tools and industry leading qualifications.

Those completing the scheme to a satisfactory level may receive an offer to progress their career within Homebase stores, our distribution network or head office.

For more information and to apply for a place on the Interior Design & Decorating Academy, visit www.homebasecareers.com before Sunday 3 August.
