Homebase Gateshead Looks To Split Site
A planning application filed with Gateshead Council has revealed that a Homebase has applied to split its existing store in the town into two.
The store, on Gateshead Retail World in Team Valley, was one of the original 42 stores Homebase had intended to close following the launch of a CVA to help save the business. The company later decided to keep the store open.
Savills Estate Agents submitted the application, which details plans for a new warehouse and the retention of the existing garden centre.
No information has been given regarding a potential tenant.
The application states: “The proposed changes are considered to make a positive contribution to the site and the wider Team Valley Retail World.
“The changes will facilitate the subdivision of the unit to enable the existing occupier, Homebase, to downsize and a new tenant to occupy the other new unit. It will improve the functionality of the units in-line with tenant requirements, and are therefore considered to be positive improvements.”
