Discount retailer Home Bargains has submitted a planning application to alter the use of an occupied Homebase store in Irvine.

The Riverway Retail Park Homebase store and garden centre is currently open but local press has reported that the company is in discussions with the landlord over its future.

Home Bargains operates from another, smaller site - 743 sq m - on the same retail park.

In a submission to North Ayrshire Council, Home Bargains said:

“Home Bargains' current store in the retail park is trading very well, hence the reason they are seeking a larger presence in Riverway.

“It stated that “a larger Home Bargains in this location with a garden centre will improve the offer for shoppers in Irvine and North Ayrshire.”

The Homebase store occupies 2,615 sq m plus the garden centre.

Homebase told local press it was 'business as usual' at the Irvine store while Home Bargains could not be reached for comment.
