Government Officially Launches Future High Streets Fund
The government has launched the £675 million Future High Streets Fund to support and fund plans to make high streets and town centres fit for the future.
The Fund was announced in the last government budget and was officially launched on Boxing Day. It was created following the findings of a report created by Sir John Timpson and an expert panel, who recognised that high streets represent more than just shopping, and called for councils to be given funding to turn Britain's town centres into community hubs and meeting places.
Local councils will bid for their share of the Fund by illustrating how they would use any awarded cash to inject life into their local high street.
Learn more about the scope of the fund here.
The application form can be found here.
The Fund will operate as a two-stage application process:
Applications for Phase 1 calls for local authorities to submit Expressions of Interest to highstreetsfund@communities.gov.uk by 22 March 2019 setting out their challenges and strategic approach to regenerating town centres.
These will be assessed and an announcement regarding on places moving forward to Phase 2 will be made in summer 2019.
