Darren Shapland resigns as non-executive director of Poundland

Darren Shapland, non-executive chairman of Topps Tiles, has resigned from his role as a non-executive director of Poundland Group.

Poundland was acquired by South Africa's Steinhoff International in July for an initial agreement of £597m, but recently upped its offer for the discount retailer to £610.4m, following speculation that hedge fund group Elliott - a key Poundland shareholder - was to push the company for a higher figure.

It was also announced today that Claire Tiney, non-executive Director and Chair of the Remuneration Committee of Topps Tiles Plc, has joined the Board of Volution Group Plc as a Non-executive Director.
