B&Q Widnes to close next month
Widnes
In March 2016, B&Q announced it was to close its Widnes store, located on the Widnes Retail Park on Dennis Road, and it has been confirmed by local press that it will close in ‘early September’.
A spokesperson for B&Q said “‘we will endeavour to find positions for as many staff as possible.”
Stratford
Local press has also reported that B&Q is ‘strongly objecting’ to the planned demolition of its Stratford store, located within the Maybird Centre retail park.
The Capital Hill Partnership which owns the retail park wants to demolish the store and create three smaller retail units on the site, arguing that it was necessary to bring that area of park up to the same standard as the rest of the site.
The closure would result in the loss of 48 jobs, and B&Q claims it would lead to a lack of choice for DIY goods in Stratford as it would be unable to relocate within the area.
The planning committee will meet in around a month to discuss the proposal.
