B&Q to close Mansfield store after 26 years

B&Q Mansfield

One of the longest-standing shops in Mansfield town centre has announced it is to close this summer.

The B&Q store on Baums Lane, which has been in business since 1989, will shut down on Saturday 6th June. A total of 35 members of staff will lose their jobs.

The nationwide DIY chain says the reason for the closure is that the lease on the building has expired and will not be renewed.

However, the firm’s nearby stores on the Old Mill Industrial Estate at Mansfield Woodhouse and Mansfield Road, Sutton will remain open.

B&Q’s divisional director Grant Anderson told the Chad: “We have enjoyed 26 fantastic years at Baums Lane, and this success is all down to the commitment and enthusiasm of those, past and present, who have worked at the store.

“It will be sad to see the store go, and we fully understand that this is a time of uncertainty for many of our colleagues at the Mansfield store. We are endeavouring to find alternative roles for as many of them as possible to use their invaluable DIY knowledge and experience at other stores.

“Our Mansfield customers can be reassured that our commitment to them won’t change. We will continue to offer an excellent service and shopping experience at our nearby stores in Mansfield Woodhouse and Sutton, which are both approximately two miles away.

“We also offer an exceptional online service at diy.com, where customers can choose from a full range of products, which they can have delivered to their door or choose to click and collect from the Mansfield Woodhouse or Sutton stores.

“We look forward to continuing to meet all home-improvement needs over the next few weeks and beyond.”

Customers can continue to shop at the Baums Lane store until 6th June. All purchases or services with a B&Q guarantee will be unaffected, and returns or exchanges can be completed at any B&Q store.
