B&Q Margate will remain open

The future of almost 50 jobs has been secured after B&Q confirmed that its Margate store will remain open.

The DIY retailer announced earlier this year that it would be closing about 60 stores over the next two years.

But the company has now confirmed that Margate will remain open "after a deal was done with another major high street retailer to let one of the units owned by B&Q in the Margate area".

Heidi Reynolds, divisional director South East, B&Q said: "We are delighted to say that we have managed to reach an agreement with a major high street retailer on one of the units we have in Margate and having completed a careful review, have decided that the Margate store can remain open.

"It's obviously great news for the team at Margate and we are very happy that we can now secure those 49 roles. We look forward to continuing to welcome Margate shoppers to our store."
