B&Q Extends Colchester Store Lease
B&Q has signed a lease extension on its Lightship Way, Colchester store, enabling it to keep trading until its new home in Stane Retail Park, Stanway is ready.
The store's lease was due to expire in May and Sainsbury's was due to take over the site, but the company has confirmed a two-year extension. Work is set to commence on the Stane Retail Park site next month and is expected to be completed by summer of next year.
A B&Q spokesman said: “We are committed to having an ongoing presence in the Colchester area and have secured a two-year lease extension for our current store on Lightship Way.
“The lease extension means that it is much more likely that we’ll be able to provide our customers with continual access to B&Q in Colchester while our new store in Stane Park is under development.”
In February 2016, Sainsbury's was granted planning permission to develop the Lightship Way site for a new, 73,000sq ft supermarket. Permission is due to expire in August of this year and Sainsbury's is understood to have begun the process of retaining approval beyond this point.
