B&Q store 725 x 500

B&Q has confirmed it is to close its Ebbw Vale, Wales, store in September.

A closing down sale will start in mid-July, and the store will offer a reduced level of services after this point. Customers are no longer be able to use their B&Q Club and Diamond Club cards; the click and collect service; the TradePoint counter, or the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom ordering service.

A B&Q spokesperson said: “We can confirm that B&Q Ebbw Vale is launching a closing down sale from mid-July.

"Local shoppers will be able to take advantage of special offers before the sale ends and the store closes in September.

"We will do our best to find alternative positions for as many colleagues as possible.”

A new owner has been found for the former B&Q store in Aberystwyth, the closure of which was announced in October 2015

Charlies, an independent home, DIY, garden and clothing chain which operates seven stores across Wales, has applied to take on the Parc y Llyn Retail Park. The company, which also trades online at www.charliesdirect.co.uk, already has a store in Aberystwyth town centre and has said it will continue to trade from the site.

Managing director designate of Charlies Stores, Rebecca Lloyd, said: “Charlies Stores is delighted to be extending our broad retail offer, subject to planning, to a larger site in Aberystwyth.

“We have been looking for an opportunity to expand in the Aberystwyth region for a long time, and are hopeful that planning consent will be granted.

“We will also continue to trade from our much-loved town centre store. We would like to thank our staff and customers, as it is their support that allows us to grow.”
