B&Q and Shelter embark on new partnership

B&Q & Shelter

B&Q and Shelter are embarking on new partnership to help make home improvement accessible to all.  Through corporate donations and employee fundraising activities, B&Q will fund a team of six specialist Shelter DIY advisers to work with people at risk of losing their home, as well as those settling into a new home following a period of homelessness. They will also be supporting thousands of other people in housing need by helping to pay for Shelter’s other frontline services and advice.

Shelter’s small team of specialist DIY advisers, funded by B&Q, are part of a holistic set of services designed to intensively help people who are either at risk of losing their home, or who have previously been homeless, to get back on their feet.

The DIY advisers provide practical home improvement help to people as they settle into a new property after a period of homelessness, and also to help people at risk of homelessness to stay in their current home. This can include basic DIY skills such as how to put up blinds or paint walls, as well as help to fit extra security locks. At Shelter and B&Q we believe that by supporting people to make the place they live into a safe and happy home, we can help many more people to keep hold of their home for the future.
