Black Friday - The DIY & Garden Retailer Overview

Welcome to our summary of the Black Friday deals from the UK's largest retailers of home and garden products.

B&Q - B&Q has moved to an EDLP strategy so it’s no surprise that the website is displaying the following message: ‘Looking for Black Friday deals? At B&Q we have low prices all year round’.  The banner links to a page of products from all sections of the store, including paint, smart home security products and power tools, with occasional discounts. B&Q ‘Not Black Friday’ Deals   

Homebase - Homebase is participating in Black Friday but the website certainly isn’t shouting about it; we found a black banner half-way down the homepage which links to a page of deals which include 20% off all artificial Christmas trees (ends 10th December); a half price Ryobi One+ brushless hammer drill; a half-price Ozito mini glue gun; a third off an AEG 18V 2 Piece Combi Drill Kit; £150 off a Lay-Z-Spa hot tub; £110 off a Yale 2 Camera Wired CCTV Kit; £34.99 off a Karcher K4 compact pressure washer; £25 off a Keter garden storage unit; £20 off a Karcher FC5 Hard Floor Cleaner and £20 off a BLACK+DECKER 2-in-1 Cordless Vac with Smart Tech. Homebase Black Friday deals  

Wickes - Never one to shy away from a promotion, Wickes is offering 15% off click and collect orders over £100, using code BLACK15 (started 19th November, ends 27th November).  There are also promotions in the Security and Ironmongery, Garden, Heating and Plumbing, and Tools and Workwear categories.  Smart home products feature strongly, with discounts of up to £52 on Yale smart locks and 25% off Hive smart heating.  Other discounts include a Flymo Mightymo cordless rotary lawnmower which has been reduced from £177 to £96 and a Karcher K3 full control pressure washer is now £167 - a £63 saving. Wickes Black Friday deals 

Selco Builders Warehouse - Selco’s Black Friday clearance event is running between the 19th and 26th November and the website states that Selco is looking to shift over £2m of excess stock before the end of the year.  Additional deals on timber, building materials, plumbing, electrical, decorating, kitchens and bathrooms can be found in individual stores, but these differ by branch.  Power tool offers include Makita and Milwaukee combi drills with up to £20 off; a Bosch 18V combi drill with £33.33 off; and a £180 discount on a £520 Paslode framing nailer.  Selco Black Friday offers  

Screwfix - The Screwfix Black Friday event ends on 26th November.  Fifty-three product lines are included in the offers, the majority of which are under the ‘electrical and lighting’ header.  Smart home offers feature highly, including £120 off a Swann 8-channel CCTV kit with four cameras for £199.99, £35 off Amazon Echo (2nd Generation) and £26 off Hive smart heating controls. Power tool discounts include 40% off an Erbauer brushless cordless impact driver at £29.99 and up to 20% off selected DeWalt, Hikoki and Erbauer combi drills.  A Karcher SC 3 1900w steam cleaner is discounted by 23% to £129.99 including VAT. Toolstation - It’s quiet over at Toolstation; there are no Black Friday banners to be seen but, tellingly, the first banner on the carousel states: ‘big savings every day’.  Go, EDLP!  That said, there are a couple of offers online, including a Hive smart thermostat with £50 off, bringing the price to £128.82, plus a free Hive Active plug worth £39.  The deal of the week is a Premium Dry Diamond Core drill kit for £49.99 - a £20 saving. 

Wyevale Garden Centres - Wyevale didn’t bother with Black Friday in 2017 but this year it’s offering an in-store only ‘spend and save’ deal which runs from Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th November.  Customers must print out coupons which provide £5 off a £25 spend, £10 off a £50 spend, £15 off a £75 spend and £20 off a £100 spend.  They are only valid in Wyevale’s Christmas shop (artificial trees, wreaths and garlands, decorations etc.) and it doesn’t include real Christmas trees – bah, humbug! Robert Dyas - Robert Dyas has fully embraced Black Friday with up to 50% off across nearly all categories, including kitchen electricals, home and garden and smart home and security.  There’s £80 off Yale Smart Living Home Alarm and View Kits and a £79 reduction on the Ring WiFi Video Doorbell 2 & Floodlight Camera (now £349), plus a half price Ezviz Mini O Plus indoor WIFI camera (now £39.99). Robert Dyas Black Friday deals  

ManoMano  - Black Friday deals feature on 242 products on the website, with discounts of up to 50%, although we spotted many items with higher savings, for example, a shower mixer for £49.99 (£150 off), £215 off a Royan back to wall toilet and soft close seat (now £84.99).  Discounted items were found in the  Garden & Outdoor, Home, Electricals and Hardware Tools categories.  A Durhand 2000W aluminium chainsaw is now £55.99 (20% off) and a DeWalt multi-voltage fast charging device is £46.39 -  a saving of £198. Again, no end date is showing for these offers. ManoMano Black Friday deals 

Discounters & Generalists - As per previous years, Argos, B&M Bargains and The Range are all focusing on non-DIY related lines, including Christmas seasonal, home, toys, perfume and small electricals. Wilko seems to have eschewed Black Friday and has instead gone for a ‘twelve days of Christmas’ promotion with new deals revealed daily, ending on 3rd December.
