Wyevale’s Cardiff garden centre reopens after fire

Wyevale Cardiff

Wyevale Garden Centres is celebrating today (19th November) the re-opening of Cardiff, a Wyevale Garden Centre on the two year anniversary of the fire that burnt down the original centre on 19 November 2013.

Councillors Michael Costas-Michael and Monica Walsh officially re-opened Cardiff, a Wyevale Garden Centre alongside returning garden centre manager Mike Greenwood and founder of the original nursey in 1952, Jean Hughes. Crew manager Richard Ball who fought the 2013 fire joined in on the festivities along with local firemen from Cardiff Central Fire Station.

The re-opening of the centre has provided 69 people with jobs, with 15 former employees of the previous centre returning.

Mike Greenwood, returning manager of the centre, said: “We have been really touched by the response from the local community as they have helped to celebrate the re-opening of our beloved centre. We have worked hard to create a shopping and leisure environment where visitors can shop, relax and pick up new tips along the way. We look forward to welcoming back our loyal customers as well as new visitors in time for Christmas.”

The space has an improved retail environment combining shopping, leisure, dining and events. Customers can explore the store’s range of plants, home and giftware or relax at the brand new Botanic Kitchen. There are a number of concessions including Regatta, Yankee Candle and Bon Marche, and new indoor and outdoor play areas.

The centre will be celebrating Christmas with the arrival of Father Christmas on 21 November followed by an ‘elf workshop’, as well as ‘real tree weekends’ in December during which customers can enjoy hot chocolate and choose their real Christmas tree.
