Wyevale Garden Centres wins two gold medals at RHS Malvern Spring Festival

Wyevale Garden Centres, in partnership with Historic Royal Palaces, were awarded yesterday Gold in the Show Garden category for their garden ‘Gardening Amidst Ruins: a homage to Capability Brown’. Today garden designer Todd Longstaffe-Gowan and David Mitchell from Wyevale Garden Centres will be presented the Gold Medal for the Best Construction Award by Viscount Cobham, Three Counties President and Sir Nicholas Bacon, Royal Horticultural Society President.

The Best Construction Award is a new category for 2016, with the team behind the garden the first ever recipients of this new and prestigious award. The award celebrates outstanding achievement in the construction of the show garden and the team’s expertise in addressing various challenges in turning a blank space into a captivating tribute to Capability Brown with every plant in bloom.

David Mitchell, Plant Buyer, Wyevale Garden Centres says, “It has been an honour for the first ever show garden that Wyevale Garden Centres has created to be so notably recognised at RHS Malvern Spring Festival. Against the odds we have successfully created a vision that will encourage gardeners at home with all plants on display available at our centres nationwide. We hope that everyone who visits over the next four days comes away feeling inspired however green fingered they are.”

Renowned garden experts and TV presenters, Alan Titchmarsh and Monty Don, also today visited the winning garden. Alan described it as ‘astonishing’ and ‘total perfection in a rustic kind of way’ whilst Monty labelled the garden as ‘imaginative and beautiful, nothing like I’ve ever seen before’.

Todd Longstaffe-Gowan, landscape gardener, “Today wasn’t just a first for Wyevale Garden Centres and Historic Royal Palaces, it was also my first ever show garden. I feel incredibly proud to not only have been part of a winning team, but also to have worked with such determined and creative individuals on this challenging project. We feel that this garden is a deserving tribute to the enduring legacy of Lancelot Capability Brown in his 300th year.”
