Wyevale Bicester

Huddersfield-based Armitage's Home & Garden has been become the latest acquisition of Wyevale Garden Centres.

In a statement Armitage said:

"My parents and I have just sold our 173 year old family business to Wyevale."

"It has not been an easy decision, and certainly not one we have taken lightly."

"The sale will enable my parents to fully retire and enable me to pursue my other interests while focusing more on my GCA chairmanship."

Armitage added that he has no intention of turning his back on the industry. Instead he will be spending his time "looking for and investigating further opportunities within the industry that has supported me and enabled our business to flourish over the past 173 years."

Armitage added: "I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all those suppliers and members of staff who have been part of our amazing journey and I hope our paths will cross again soon."

Chief executive of Wyevale Garden Centres, Kevin Bradshaw said: "With a strong heritage dating back to 1842, the garden centres at Pennine and Birchencliffe are renowned for their high quality plants alongside garden and gift products, enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff and welcoming family atmosphere. These acquisitions support our strategy to grow our business by acquiring exceptionally high quality garden centres."
