Wren Wins Transport Award For Unique Trunking Method
Wren Kitchens is recognised for its industry-leading delivery service by winning a prestigious award for its innovative ways to be more greener and efficient.
The Humber’s largest private employer, Wren Kitchens, was head and shoulders above competition such as Hermes and Parcel Force by winning the Business Excellence category at the Motor Transport Awards.
The virtual black-tie ceremony saw judges commend Wren’s operations which in 2019 saw them deliver 91,000 kitchens 99.5% on time and in full. The retail business has seven delivery depots across the UK including its headquarters in Barton-upon-Humber. It has an impressive in-house fleet of 214 vehicles.
The judges were impressed with Wren’s 33% reduction in road miles in 2019, thanks to its pioneering triple-trunking method which sees demountable box bodies pulled by one 18 tonne truck. Each box can hold two large kitchens.
Lee Holmes, Wren Kitchens Transport and Logistics Director, said: “Our mission has always been quite simple – be the best at everything we do to ensure we are industry leaders in the transport world so we can offer our customers the very best delivery service possible.
“We are empowered to push the boundaries and find methods to further improve the way we work which is why we introduced the triple-trunking method. It’s one of our greatest achievements by increasing capacity by 20% and reducing our carbon footprint as it replaces three separate vans.”
As voted the UK’s best retail place to work by the world’s largest jobsite Indeed, Wren’s logistical team will be increased by over 20% this year to cater for increased delivery demand. Over 80% of managers and supervisors in the department have been promoted within thanks to extensive internal training as well as national apprenticeship programmes.
