Wren Kitchens Takes Home Five Motor Transport Awards

Wren MTA 2021 - 725

Wren Kitchens has been recognised for putting its customers first with its safe delivery operations during the pandemic by achieving five prestigious accolades at the Motor Transport Awards.

The judging panel praised Wren’s robust, in-house delivery service as it rapidly focussed its efforts on safely delivering 96,296 kitchens for those customers that would have been left without cooking facilities during the pandemic.

The UK’s number one kitchen retailer took home the following awards:

  • Safety in Operation Award
  • Home Delivery Operator of the Year
  • Operational Excellence Award
  • Business Excellence Award
  • Training Award

For 35 years, the Motor Transport Awards have been a benchmark for excellence among UK road transport fleet operators, vehicle manufacturers and other innovators. Wren Kitchens beat the likes of world-renowned businesses such as DPD, Hermes, Hovis, Tesco, and Xpo Logistics.

For the second year running, Wren has held onto the Business Excellence Award and has regained its Operational Excellence title which the retailer won in 2019.

Wren Kitchens Transport and Logistics Director, Lee Holmes, said: “Not only is it our mission to design and manufacture affordable dream kitchens, but we are also passionate about efficiency, safety and standards of the highest level in the delivery of our products.

“Our policy of keeping everything in-house including our 770-strong logistics team drives our successes and enables continuous improvement.

“We’re proud and grateful to every member of the Wren family that continued to work for our customers during the pandemic and towards our future - it’s fantastic that we’ve been recognised for this.”

Wren’s agile business model enabled it to embrace the challenges and realign its focus, from facilities, induction and workplace training to best practice, manual handling, transportation, and customer service.

Safety is at the heart of Wren and all drivers complete a daily health questionnaire and temperature check before entering Wren’s six depots across the UK. Not only that, but all deliveries were contactless, drivers wear protective equipment and vehicles are disinfected daily or when there is a change of driver.

The Motor Transport Award judges added: “Wren is a progressive business - you can clearly see the company has high standards in all of its operational tasks from the start of any order to completed delivery.

“They reacted very quickly and efficiently to COVID-19 which has brought success.”

Training and personal development underpins Wren’s success. To manage for a spike in orders, Wren assessed, employed, and trained an unprecedented 120+ new drivers in four months. To support this, Wren has 15 inhouse Road Haulage Association trained assessors that work out of the dedicated training academies located across its depots.

Also, more than 80% of Wren’s logistics management have been promoted from within while the company provides training, personal development, and apprenticeship opportunities.
