Work commences on £70m Home Bargains distribution centre
Work has now started on a £70m regional distribution hub in the South West which could create up to 1,200 jobs.
TJ Morris, the Merseyside-based discount retailer trading as Home Bargains, is building a one million sq ft hub at Solstice Park in Amesbury.
The facility will support 400 new stores and is due to be operational by autumn 2015.
Solstice Park is a 160-acre, mixed-use business park with roadside and leisure facilities and TJ Morris has acquired 64 acres.
In addition to the distribution hub, there will also be a southern management training centre which 170 people will attend a year.
The TJ Morris site was previously owned by Clowes Developments (UK), part of the Derbyshire-based property investment group called the CWC Group.
TJ Morris operations director Joe Morris said: "Solstice Park is the ideal location for our new regional distribution centre.
"Our Home Bargains distribution centre will be among the most advanced in Western Europe, thanks to our sophisticated electronic picking system, with the technology developed in-house.
"We make no secret of our ambition to grow to 700 stores over the next five years, which is why Home Bargains needs to be at Solstice Park."
Solstice Park development director David Fahie added: "The construction of Home Bargains' £70m regional distribution centre, creating so many valuable jobs, underlines Solstice Park's growing stature as the location for businesses to be in central southern England."
