Wintery Weather Stalled Footfall Recovery Last Week
Springboard has published retail footfall data for week 13 (27/03 - 02/04) advising that colder weather had a negative impact on retail footfall.
Springboard Index - High Street Index - Week 13 2022
2022 vs 2021 = +94.5%
2022 vs 2019 = -19.3%
Week-on-week = -12.6%
Springboard's Marketing and Insights Director, Diane Wehrle, said:
"Somewhat inevitably, the return of wintery weather last week impacted footfall adversely. Footfall declined across the UK in all three key destination types last week from the week before when warm and sunny weather led to a significant rise in consumer activity.
The drop in footfall in both high streets and shopping centres exceeded the rise in the week before last, and high streets - with their exposure to the elements - fared the worst of the three destination types.
Footfall declined on six of the seven days last week; there was only a very marginal uplift on Monday and the decline magnified each day through the week with the largest drop occurring on Saturday."
