Wincanton to manage B&Q's Showroom Fulfilment Centre in Burton

One of the retail sector’s best-known brands, B&Q, has turned to supply chain specialist Wincanton to bolster its growing multi-channel operations.

Wincanton, a leading provider of innovative supply chain solutions in the UK, will manage B&Q’s 1m sq ft Showroom Fulfilment Centre in Burton on Trent, which houses the retailer’s kitchen, bathroom and bedroom ranges. Around nine million cases will be handled per year.

Wincanton is also planning all transport routes for B&Q, fulfiling approximately 500,000 customer orders for the home and garden specialist’s supply chain requirements across the UK, utilising its specialist multi-channel expertise.

This latest announcement builds on two further B&Q contract wins, one with the company’s container business and the other for its national planning department, both announced earlier this year in May.

“We have a long-standing relationship with B&Q and are of course extremely pleased to be associated with one of the UK retail sector’s biggest and most respected brands,” said Guy Elliott, managing director, contract logistics for Wincanton.

“Because of the way people buy things these days, including the emergence of mobile purchases and processes such as ‘click and collect’, the entire retail sector is going through a period of unprecedented change,” he continued. “Wincanton is at the forefront of this transformation and we are constantly developing our solutions to help customers adapt to the new environment and, ultimately, to meet and benefit from the multi-channel challenge.”
