Wilko has today returned to the high street, with new store openings in Plymouth and Exeter.

A wilko LinkedIn post read:

Today we’re celebrating the opening of our first new concept stores in Plymouth and Exeter, ahead of a national roll-out across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

It was a great welcome back, with queues of returning wilko customers eager to get their hands on their much-loved products. The two store openings today will be closely followed by Luton (8th December) with more to be announced.

Our stores offer everything customers expect from us and more, with an additional 20% product lines available across our great value wilko own brand products and popular named brands.

Pick & Mix is back alongside our seven key categories that make us the home of family value: pets, garden, cleaning, storage, DIY, decorating and Kitchen. Services include the welcome return of the National Lottery and new fixtures such as paint mixing, key cutting and Rug Doctor carpet cleaning hire. Plus, Exeter opens an in-store café, Café Eighty-Nine.

When recruiting teams for the new stores, ex-wilko employees have been prioritised with three quarters of the original team returning in Plymouth and a third in Exeter across all levels.

The new stores deliver the very best of what wilko as a brand that people know, love and trust had to offer, including its advanced own-brand capabilities and digital marketplace, maximising the operational efficiencies of CDS Superstores via its buying expertise and infrastructure.

CEO of CDS Superstores, Alexander Simpkin said; “The customer reaction to the new stores opening today has been fantastic and proves we’re doing the right thing in returning this much-loved retailer to UK high streets.”
