Wilko Announced As Headline Sponsor for Keep Britain Tidy's 2019 Great British Spring Clean
Wilko is delighted to be named headline sponsor for the Great British Spring Clean, the country’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign. The business is committed to help get 500,000 people pulling together to clean up the nation’s streets, parks and beaches between the 22nd March and the 23rd April this year.
Speaking about the campaign, Andrew Moore, wilko CCO said; “Supporting hard-working families is really important to us, and part of that is helping make sure that they have communities they can enjoy and thrive in. We know that the environment on their doorstep matters to people, which is why we chose to support Keep Britain Tidy through our carrier bag charge donations.
“The funding doesn’t just back this incredible campaign, it also supports projects which transform green spaces and those which give schools a helping hand, educating children and young people about how they can make a difference to the environment, for example how their school can better manage waste by reducing, reusing and recycling.”
In 2019 wilko will be bringing the Great British Spring Clean to the high street. Every wilko store will be offering all the things needed to join in with this year’s campaign. From litter-pickers to bags, high-vis vests to hand sanitiser, volunteers will be able to grab affordable equipment for their clean-up from stores across the country or online at wilko.com.
Andrew continues; “We want to pitch in on a practical level, too, which is why we’ve made sure team members from all of our stores can take part in a clean-up through our funded volunteering program.”
In addition, wilko is excited to be the sole sponsor of the Great Big School Clean again this year. More than 120,000 children took part in last year’s event and worked hard to clean up the area around their schools. It is hoped that even more kids will get involved in 2019 as young people lead the way, setting an example for other generations on how to take action and make a real difference.
Keep Britain Tidy Chief Executive Allison Ogden-Newton said: “The Great British Spring Clean is an opportunity for the millions of people who care about the environment on their doorstep to do something positive that will make a visible difference.
“We are delighted that wilko are again supporting the Great British Spring Clean and the Great Big School Clean, and thankful for the support and dedication they have shown in bringing this campaign to their staff and customers.”
As a business, wilko is committed to tackling some of the key environmental issues that its customers and team members face. For example, deprived areas have three times less green space and are nine times more littered than their more affluent counterparts. And, eight out of every ten children in these areas spend less time outdoors. By supporting Keep Britain Tidy and the Great British Spring Clean wilko hopes to help clean up communities, which its stores sit at the heart of, and help them build better futures.
