Wickes to open in Paignton
A NEW DIY store is to set up shop in Paignton with the creation of ten jobs.
Wickes Building Supplies is moving into the empty premises next to the Sainsbury's store in Torquay Road on the former Blacker's Garage site.
Wickes took a new ten-year lease on the semi-detached 4,881sq ft unit with an annual rent of £80,000.
Mike Hill is head of group property acquisitions for Travis Perkins Plc who secured the Paignton premises for Wickes.
He said the new store will provide a kitchen and bathroom showroom targeted at the retail market as well as giving access to a complete range of trade and DIY products.
Mr Hill said: "Paignton represents one of a number of new format stores which are smaller in size than the standard Wickes DIY store."
David Nugent, managing director of the landlord company which was involved in the deal, said: "Following the success of securing Sainsbury's in the first unit, we are very pleased that Wickes have decided to occupy the adjoining unit. The scheme benefits from shared off street car parking.
"We were always convinced that providing the right accommodation in such a prominent location would attract nationally regarded occupiers."
Wickes is already refitting the unit. It is expected to open by the end of June.
