Wickes Praised For Brighton Pride Message

Wickes Brighton Pride

Wickes has received praise on social media for sharing a powerful message on its float at Brighton Pride over the weekend.

The float (pictured above and below) displayed two large posters, one displaying the transgender flag and the message: "No LGB without the T, we stand by our trans siblings now and forever."

The second poster featured the Pride flag and the message: "Ban conversion therapy for all!"

Pride attendees took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the float and its message, including Jorgen Von Strangle (@FlouncyMcGee) who said: 'I will say, if corporates are going to be at pride, it's good to see actual bold messaging rather than "love is nice"'.

Other reactions to the Wickes float included:

@balf4our My Pride flag is now a Wickes colour chart

@mikrogalaxies I don't even need to do any DIY but I'm going to go to Wickes to buy a ton of DIY stuff anyway

@GuzziHero Suddenly Wickes became my hardware store of choice. Corporate pride or not, support deserves support.

@tricktrifle Their rivals gutted they didn't beat them to "no LGBTQ without B&Q"

@CC_at_YCTAC Also, note the smaller flags, mostly representing identities (ace, pan, nonbinary, a couple I can't make out) frequently marginalized in broader queer spaces. One corporation remembered that Pride stuff doesn't begin and end with the standard rainbow flag.

@dametokillfor This is genuinely impressive. Nice work. I work for a rival company, and we usually recommend Toolstation if we don't have something, I'll start recommending @Wickes now.

@walkirian I was very impressed when I saw that. Very strong* language for a company, was so happy about it. *I shouldn't say the wording is "strong" but the way things seem these days, something more than happy pride and love is love looks like a strong stance.
