Wickes opens new Norwich store

Local press has reported that Wickes has opened its new store in Norwich, on the Sweet Briar Park Industrial Estate, just over a year after Norwich City Council granted permission for the store to be built.

The store is the first tenant on the new site which is an extension to the existing Sweet Briar Retail Park, which houses IKEA and Marks & Spencer, among others.

The new site is being built on land equivalent to 15 football pitches.  During the planning stages, a city council planning officer said of the Wickes site: "The development could also act as a catalyst for the wider development of the site, which could in turn provide employment opportunities and economic development to this part of the city.”

Wickes has relocated to the site from its former home in Drayton Road which, along with a former Topps Tiles store, is being converted to create a new Aldi branch which will create up to 50 jobs.
