Wickes Is Supporting Festive Community Projects
Communities around the UK have been preparing for the Christmas season by getting hands-on with DIY Christmas projects. Thanks to donations from Wickes, charities like Men in Sheds, Dogs Trust and many more have been able to build grottos and other festive decor for their local communities to enjoy this festive season and raise money for local charities.
There have been various product donations across different Wickes stores for Christmas projects. These donations from Wickes will impact and support over 6000 people in communities across the UK over the Christmas period.
Winterton Men In Sheds
Wickes store in Scunthorpe donated some flooring, stud work and paint to go towards the building of this Santas grotto for the local community club for children in Winerton to enjoy. Winterton Lions approached the volunteers at their local Men in Sheds to ask them to make the picket fencing, signposts and Santa's mailbox for their Christmas event.
Jacky, a member of Men In Sheds Winterton, said “All children received a gift, all of which were donated by local businesses. The event was completely free of charge, so Wickes’ donation of materials contributed towards this being a lovely experience for all children, regardless of their families' financial situation.”
Dogs Trust in Cardiff
Wickes store in Caerphilly donated the products to help build this very special Santa sleigh for Dogs Trust in Cardiff. The sleigh will help promote some of the dogs which are up for adoption and will be used during their Christmas fayre this weekend to help promote the cause as well as fundraising for the centre.
Kim Davies, Deputy Centre Manager for Dogs Trust Cardiff, said “We are super grateful for the donation from Wickes. The sleigh looks fantastic and will be a great addition to the Christmas Grotto”.
Community Christmas in Harlow
For the fourth consecutive year, Phil Rodgers, a local handyman in Harlow and the residents of Ridgeways in Harlow, dedicated their spare hours to crafting outdoor Christmas decorations showcased on his street. The outdoor Christmas decorations contribute to his fundraising efforts for the St. Claires Hospice in Harlow. More than £2,000 was raised last year through the street display and they have already beaten that target with their Mulled Wine and Mince Pies event raising over £1,900.
Phil Rodgers, a resident of Ridgeways, said “The residents of Ridgeways are incredibly grateful for the continued support from Wickes as without their support this wouldn’t be possible. Since we started this we have raised close to £7,000 for the hospice.“
These are just a few examples of how Wickes is giving back to the community over the
festive season. The Wickes Community Programme is open to all local community groups all year round seeking help for improvement projects.
