Wickes Chelmsford to close on 3rd June

Wickes in Chelmsford is preparing to close its doors for the final time and notices have gone up inside the store announcing the news to customers.

It's been confirmed that the store closure is due to take place on 3rd June 2018 and there are leaflets up signposting shoppers to the next nearest store in Maldon, nine miles away.

It's understood that a planning application was submitted to Chelmsford City Council last year, proposing to turn Wickes into a new Audi garage and showroom. 

Planning officers have granted permission to change the building into a car showroom but it’s not known at this stage if the company taking over is Audi.

The building will be completely stripped back to its structure, recladded and redesigned, and will include a valet building, car parking and landscaping.

The Cuton Hall Lane area is popular for car dealerships with Jeep, Chrysler, Land Rover, Vauxhall, Ford, Mercedes and Toyota all with showrooms nearby.
