Travis Perkins awards national transport contract to DHL Supply Chain
DHL Supply Chain has won a three-and-a-half year contract with Travis Perkins Group, one of the leading builders’ merchants, to oversee its national transport operations.
Having worked with Travis Perkins over the past twenty years, DHL will operate from the merchant’s distribution centre in Northampton, transporting goods to 1,000 branches across the UK.
Handling 160,000 deliveries and 20,000 loads per annum, DHL will reduce operating costs by improving trailer fill, as well as managing a control centre to improve transport visibility. Collaborative initiatives such as backhauling, shared loads and procurement will also contribute towards a saving in excess of £900,000, which the logistics leader has committed to achieving over the course of the contract.
Robin Proctor, supply chain director at Travis Perkins commented: “We are looking forward to working in closer partnership with DHL, whose collaborative and agile supply chain solution is projected to deliver significant operational efficiencies.”
Dean Wyatt, VP of business development retail at DHL Supply Chain said: “We’re delighted to be maintaining our long-standing relationship with Travis Perkins. The new contract is testament to our customer commitment and in-depth understanding of the business’ needs. As a result, we have developed a strategy which we’re confident we will transform and streamline Travis Perkins’ current transport operations.”
