Toolstop Witnesses 400% Online Order Surge Following BigCommerce Website Refresh
Toolstop and Toolsaver make the shift to BigCommerce to better support B2C and B2B audiences
The Toolsaver site has experienced a 400% increase in orders and a 1,966% surge in traffic since moving to BigCommerce (May 2019 v.s May 2020)
Switching from Magento has provided greater functionality and simplification to the ecommerce platforms
Toolstop, one of the largest online suppliers of power tools worldwide, has announced a substantial digital overhaul that will extend its B2C and B2B offering. Toolsaver is Toolstop’s B2B element of the company aimed at its B2B audience and wholesale division.
The two new B2C and B2B ecommerce stores have been launched on BigCommerce to enable a more efficient online shopping experience for its online customers.
From bricks to clicks
Launched in 1965, Toolstop was a family-run hardware store based in Hamilton, Scotland. In 2007, Toolstop created its own B2C ecommerce store built on Joomla and quickly grew in the UK market and overseas.
To appeal to a reseller audience, Toolstop launched the wholesale side of its business, which ended up growing at a faster rate than the original B2C site. The team then created a new brand in 2018, Toolsaver, to support its growing B2B audience.
Migrating onto BigCommerce from Magento
Toolstop’s B2C store was formerly built on Magento. The tool store wanted a website refresh for both of its sites. BigCommerce was identified as the best option to provide that support, due to its ability to host both a B2C and B2B site, and the company worked with its agency partner Space48 to bring the new sites to life.
When looking at the period May 2019 to May 2020, Toolsaver has witnessed:
400% increase in orders
A conversion rate of 9.2%
An increase in web traffic of 1,966%
Neil Bruce, Toolsaver ecommerce manager, comments: “We’ve wanted to build the new website on a highly flexible platform, suitable for both B2C and B2B. B2B with Toolsaver is the main growth area of our business at the moment, and BigCommerce has made it so simple for us to run a B2B site because it’s easy to customize things by using the APIs and the custom script functionality.”
He continues, “We decided that BigCommerce was the best platform for both the Toolstop and Toolsaver sites; it’s very user-friendly, easy to navigate within the admin panel, and—one of my favourite things about it—you can’t touch the core. On BigCommerce, you're working with scripts, plug-ins, and APIs, so you can't really break anything. That flexibility and security was one of the big factors that made us decide to build the Toolsaver site on BigCommerce.”
