Last week, Insight Retail Group's Steve Collinge reported that Tile Giant, the tiling specialist with over 80 stores in the UK, had been acquired by Stiled.

Stiled is an an outdoor tiling and paving company founded by the former CEO of Topps Tiles: Matt Williams, whose father founded Topps Tiles in the early 1960s.  Matt worked for the business for twenty years, including twelve as CEO, and announced he was stepping down in November 2019 to work on a new challenge.

On the Stiled website, Matt says: "I founded Stiled, along with family & friends, with a simple vision.  I have always loved our great outdoors in all its forms & seasons & wanted to help people use porcelain tiles to create exciting & enticing outdoor spaces they are proud of & want to share."

Tile Giant was part of Travis Perkins PLC from 2007 to late 2020, at which point it was sold to Coverings Ltd, a specialist investment company dedicated to helping businesses in the wall and floor coverings industry achieve their full potential.

Data from Companies House shows that Tile Giant's CEO Mike Ashley has stepped down from his role following the acquisition.  In accounts filed for the year ended 31st December 2021, Tile Giant had a turnover of £46.2m.

Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
