TikTok Tests Social Commerce Features
Short-form video app TikTok - which has over 1 billion users - is investing in social commerce, allowing selected users to add links within their profile biographies and allowing some creators to direct viewers to retail websites within their videos.
Around 20 influencers are currently understood to have been granted access to this functionality, which was first spotted by Fabian Bern, founder of Chinese startup Uplab, who tweeted a video of himself following a link to Amazon from within a TikTok video.
ByteDance, the owners of TikTok said: “We’re always experimenting with new ways to improve the app experience for our users. Ultimately, we’re focused on ways to inspire creativity, bring joy, and add value for our community.”
Instagram users can add website links in their user biographies and the social media platform has confirmed its intention to further expand its retail capabilities.
