The Range to take over Tesco site in Dundee

A new department store is to create 150 jobs in Dundee, it has been revealed.

National chain The Range is set to take over the former Tesco site at the Stack Leisure Park in Lochee.

Local officials have hailed the move as proof Lochee’s regeneration is gathering pace, while the company said that the area had “so much potential”.

Both full-time and part-time store and department manager positions will be filled, as well as warehouse workers and administration staff.

Planning permission has been given for work to start on their Lochee venture.

Alan Ross, councillor for Lochee, welcomed the plans.

He said: “All jobs that come to this area are welcome, particularly in the Stack Leisure Park.

“People have wanted to see something happen there for a long time.

“The shop has been empty for a few years so people are pleased to see progress.

“It shows that people are willing to come in to Lochee and invest in it.”

The Range has nearly 80 stores across the UK, and sells products in 16 departments, including DIY, homewares, furniture and arts and crafts.

Applications for jobs will be taken by the local job centre.

The company has also promised opportunities to develop skills and grow with the company.

Chris Dawson, the owner of the chain, said: “We are very pleased to be creating a number of jobs in the area and look forward to inviting potential employees to join the team.

“I would like to thank the council for welcoming us and being so supportive.

“The Range is relatively new to Scotland and we are excited to show the locals that we offer a wide variety of quality products at affordable prices.

“Dundee is a location with so much potential, we are continuing to grow fast and expand and I am confident that The Range Dundee will help us in doing this.”

Councillor Ross said the new store will help complete the long-term regeneration plans in the area.

He said: “The regeneration work we have done is finally paying off here.

“When the Megabowl left the site there that seemed like the final nail in the coffin for people.

“It’s something that has been on my radar since I’ve been elected.

“So it’s great that there will hopefully be a new shopping hub both there and along the High Street.”
